Terms of Service

Last updated: August 10, 2026

Welcome to JournL. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the JournL mobile application ("JournL," the "App," or the "Service"), operated by JournL ("we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. Please also review our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect and use your information.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you may only use the Service with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

2. Your Account

JournL uses Sign in with Apple to authenticate your account — there are no separate JournL passwords to manage. You are responsible for keeping your Apple ID and device secure, since access to your Apple ID controls access to your JournL account. Notify us immediately at info@journlapp.com if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

3. Description of the Service

JournL is an AI-assisted journaling application that lets you record journal entries, converse with an on-device AI chatbot, and review your entries over time. JournL's AI features (chat, welcome messages, and journal summarization) run entirely on-device using Apple's Foundation Models framework — your conversations and journal content are processed locally on your device, not on our servers or by any third-party AI provider. AI responses are generated automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for your situation.

4. Device and Software Requirements

On-device AI features depend on Apple Intelligence and the Foundation Models framework, which require a compatible Apple device and operating system version. If your device does not support these capabilities, some or all AI features may be limited or unavailable.

5. Not Medical or Professional Advice

JournL is a personal journaling tool, not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, financial, or legal advice. The Service is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. If you are experiencing a medical or mental health emergency, contact emergency services or a crisis hotline in your area immediately.

6. User Content and Storage

You retain full ownership of the journal entries, chat messages, and other content you create in the Service ("User Content"). Your User Content is stored locally on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, synced through your own private iCloud account so it's available across your devices. We do not host or store your User Content on our servers, and we do not have access to it. You are solely responsible for the content you create.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation;
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or related systems;
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service;
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except as permitted by law;
  • Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm another person, or to generate unlawful, abusive, or harmful content.

8. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, including how your Apple sign-in identifier is handled and how your on-device content and Apple's iCloud service work together to store your journal.

9. Apple Services

The Service relies on Apple platform services — Sign in with Apple, the Foundation Models framework, and iCloud — to operate. Your use of these services is also subject to Apple's own terms and privacy policy. We are not responsible for the availability or performance of Apple's services.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time by deleting the App, which removes your locally stored content (any copy retained in your own iCloud account remains under your control via Apple). You may request deletion of your server-side account record at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms or if we reasonably believe your use poses a risk to the Service or other users.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, JOURNL AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. BECAUSE YOUR JOURNAL CONTENT LIVES ON YOUR DEVICE AND YOUR OWN ICLOUD ACCOUNT, WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOSS OF CONTENT DUE TO DEVICE LOSS, DELETION, OR ICLOUD ISSUES OUTSIDE OUR CONTROL.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, unless otherwise required by applicable local law.
